Elba is the largest island in the Tuscan Archipelago,
the third largest in Italy and the nearest to continental Europe.
It is 5 miles off the coast of Tuscany and has an area of 100 square
miles with a spectacular 70-mile long coastline. There is an asphalt
road network that offers 120 miles of travel.
The winter population of only 30,000 is divided amongst 8 small
town councils.
There is a good ferry service from Piombino or
there is the faster hydrofoil or hydro jet.
You can also arrive by air at La Pila airport, Marina di Campo,
in a medium-sized aircraft from several Italian and European cities.
