Il primo vero e proprio nucleo abitato sorse sulla scogliera
del Cotone (dalla parola "cote" che significa grosso sasso),
dove una piccola insenatura offriva anche attracco e riparo alle barche da pesche.
Die ersten Häuser wurden auf der Klippe (Cotone vom Wort
"Cote" = großer Stein) errichtet,
wo eine kleine Bucht auch den Fischerbooten Schutz bot.
The first inhabited center was constructed on a cliff called
"Cotone" (from the word "cote" which means big rock),
where a small creek also provided shelter for mooring and fishing boats.
