Livello del mare; abitanti 2000 circa; Distanza da Portoferraio, km. 19,800. Si tratta di uno dei più importanti paesi dell'isola. Il primo vero e proprio nucleo abitato sorse sulla scogliera del Cotone (dalla parola ''cote'' che significa grosso sasso), dove una piccola insenatura offriva anche attracco e riparo alle barche da pesche. Pur avendo avuto un considerevole sviluppo turistico-edilizio nell'entroterra, il centro e il lungomare di Marciana conservano gli originali caratteri architettonici-urbanistici ottocenteschi, tipici dei centri della costa toscana e ligure.

Einer der wichtigsten Orte der Insel. Der erste bewohnte Teil des Ortes entstand auf dem Felsen "Cotone" (vom Wort "cote" = großer Stein), wo eine kleine Felsbucht den Fischerbooten Schutz bot. Im Landesinneren haben sich viele touristische Strukturen entwickelt, das Ortszentrum und der Uferbereich haben ihren originalen architektonischen Charakter des 8. Jahrh. typisch für die toskanische Küste und Ligurien erhalten.
