1.800 abitanti, il paese si trova nel versante orientale dell'isola in una piccola insenatura di mare contornata da colline la cui terra, rossa per l'ossido di ferro, ne ricorda il ricco passato minerario.
In questa zona l'estrazione del ferro dalle miniere avveniva fin dai tempi degli Etruschi ed è stata, insieme alla pesca, l'attività prevalente degli abitanti fino a qualche decennio fa.

1.800 Einwohner, befindet sich im östlichen Teil der Insel in einer kleinen Bucht, umgeben von Hügeln deren rote Erde (Eisenoxyd) an die Eisenminen der Vergangenheit  erinnert.
In dieser Zone wurde der Abbau des Eisens schon seit der Etruskerzeit betrieben und bildete bis vor wenigen Jahrzehnten zusammen mit der Fischerei die Haupteinnahmequelle der Einwohner.
