The parish church of Marciana, dedicated to Santa Caterina, it currently has und sixteenth-century aspect with some eighteenth-century additions. But in the inner of the building, some structures have been capacities to the light that could belong to a more ancient sacred building, of medieval age, in occasion of recent restorations. However is was not found some document that indicates the existence of it. Sure Marciana it was ancient settlement, and its history bloomed until the fifteenth century, when it saw the construction of a fortress to work of the Principles of Piombino, the Appiani.
