Medicee Fortresses-Historical Center

A masterpiece of the military architecture of that epoch. The construction work was begun 1548 on statement by Cosimo I De Medici, Gran Duke of the Toskana. It concerns in an imposing complex that guaranteed the security of shipping in the Mediterranean.The individual fortresses of this defense system are; Forte Stella and Forte Falcone (which are situated on the higher hills over the city) and the octagonal tower of the Linguella, at the port entrance.
