The Ottone garden at Portoferraio became by its rich palm collection a special attraction of the island of Elba. To collect so much different types of palms, were necessary many journeys into distant countries. Our palm friend from Elba visited around the turn of the century Argentina, Mexico, Brazil, Uruguay, Chile, Peru and Bolivia, brought also plants and trees from the Himalaya, Pakistan, Persia and Afghanistan and purchased further plants in South Africa, California and Australia.
